DESCRIPTION
A CFO must establish and maintain the ethical framework for her or his organization. As the "conscience of the company," the CFO is often the final decision-maker on ethical issues, not only inside of the finance and accounting organization, but also in other areas such as customer relations, human resources, marketing communications, and in dealing with society at large. Indeed, as doing business has become more global, ethical issues have increased in complexity. Behavior that might be thought as ethical in the U.S., might be considered unethical to other cultures. CFOs who are often accused of seeing things in black and white, have discovered that business ethics have many shades of gray.
In this session, we will discuss and examine four real-life ethical dilemmas faced by CFOs. This will be a true “CFO RoundTable” discussion, as everyone in the audience will be given a chance to participate. The discussion will be lead by professor James Hoopes, the Murata Professor of Business Ethics at Babson College and Dean Richlin of Foley Hoag will provide his legal perspective. This promises to be a lively discussion that will challenge the way CFOs consider ethical behavior in the corporate world.
