DESCRIPTION

The speakers will cover recent case law developments and changes in federal intellectual property laws, particularly patent law, including proposed patent reform legislation, which will affect innovation and research and development policies for high technology businesses and business development plans for entrepreneurs. They will cover both changes in the laws for applying for and seeking intellectual property protection, as well as litigation and protection of patent rights and defending claims of infringement.

PHILIP C. SWAIN

Philip Swain is a partner at Foley Hoag LLP in Boston , specializing in patent litigation, particularly in the high technology, electronic, and mechanical technologies. He is also an adjunct professor of law at Suffolk University Law School , where he teaches patent litigation.

Mr. Swain has been trying patents and intellectual property cases and appeals for over 24 years. He received a B.A. and B.S. in mechanical engineering from Tufts University , and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. Upon graduation from law school, he served as law clerk to Judge Giles S. Rich of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington , D.C. , before entering private practice.
