Health Policy Specialist Adds to Growing Team of Legislative and Regulatory Professionals

Adding to the team of life sciences specialists in the Government Strategies practice, law firm Foley Hoag LLP welcomes Kelly Childress, most recently the Health Policy Advisor to Congressman Mike Rogers of Michigan.

Kelly joins as a Health Policy Specialist, adding to a nationally recognized team of legislative and regulatory professionals working with biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device companies.

“We are delighted to welcome Kelly, who is widely respected for her record of accomplishment in Congress,” said Nick Littlefield, head of the firm’s Government Strategies practice. “Kelly will provide invaluable advice to our global life science clients on developing successful regulatory and legislative strategies to improve health care and reduce the uncertainty and cost of innovation.”

While working on Capitol Hill, Kelly directed all facets of the Congressman’s health policy platform including issues within the jurisdiction of the Energy & Commerce Committee food and drug regulation, biomedical programs, Medicare, Medicaid, children’s healthcare and health insurance reform. She also established the bipartisan Cancer Care Working Group to examine the oncology care delivery system.

With extensive experience working with federal agencies, states, and regulated industries, Kelly was instrumental in the development and enactment of landmark healthcare legislation on issues ranging from FDA reform and biodefense to Medicare and children’s health insurance. Before working for Congressman Mike Rogers, Kelly served in a similar capacity to Congressman John Shimkus of Illinois and also served as a government relations manager for the American Heart Association.

She received her undergraduate degree from University of Virginia and is expecting her J.D. from Catholic University Columbus School of Law in 2010.
