Michael B. Keating, Foley Hoag Partner and Chair of Court Management Advisory Board, Presides Over “Monan Committee” Five-Year Symposium

Boston, MA - February 28, 2008

Foley Hoag partner Michael B. Keating presided over yesterday’s symposium entitled “Striving for Excellence in Judicial Administration” sponsored by the Court Management Advisory Board to commemorate the publication five years ago of a report by the Visiting Committee on Management in the Courts, chaired by Father F. Donald Monan.

The symposium, held at the John Adams Courthouse and attended by over 300 people, featured opening remarks by Mr., Keating, followed by an introduction from Chief Justice Margaret H. Marshall and a keynote address by California’s Chief Justice Ronald M. George. Later, a panel comprised of business/civic leaders and legal professionals explored the principles of organization transformation as applied to improvements in court management. During the event, the group presented an award to Appeals Court Justice James McHugh for his effective implementation of the recommendations made by the Committee in 2003.

Michael Keating was quoted in The Boston Globe on February 27 regarding the Monan Committee’s report, and also published an op-ed piece earlier in the year on the same topic. For more information on the initiative, please visit www.mass.gov/courts/sjc.
