On the Agenda: Law and the Environment, Financing Growth, and Non-Competes—Foley Hoag Launches Three New Blogs
Boston, MA - November 18, 2008
Providing a Forum for Thought Leadership and Sounding Boards for Industries Driving the Economy
Today Foley Hoag LLP is pleased to announce the launch of three new blogs, designed and created as a forum to discuss pressing issues in today’s marketplace. The firm is pleased to present the Law and the Environment Blog, the Massachusetts Noncompete Law Blog, and the Emerging Enterprise Center Blog.
The blogs are primarily managed by three Foley Hoag partners, Seth Jaffe, Mike Rosen, and Dave Broadwin, respectively, and grown out of conversations addressing some of the most pressing issues of the day.
“On any given day, Foley Hoag lawyers are engaged in cutting-edge work on behalf of our clients as they seek to finance growth, commercialize technology, and protect their assets,” said Mark Young, Chief Marketing Officer at Foley Hoag. “Creating and maintaining that dialogue is a critical resource today. These blogs will provide collaborative, real-world insight to help drive the success of our clients.”
Even in these turbulent times, many industries – particularly life sciences, energy technology and renewable energy – look forward to growth and opportunity. The environmental and renewable energy community, this week deeply immersed in the Clean Energy Conference in Boston, will appreciate the insights gained through a view of the Law and the Environment Blog. The blog provides perspective on developments related to climate change, renewable energy, hazardous and solid waste, clean air and water, sustainability and green design.
Those in the technology sector will find fresh insights from the Emerging Enterprise Center blog, including discussion of issues facing startups, around financing, and the entrepreneurial ecosystem as a whole. The Emerging Enterprise Center serves the wide-ranging needs of Greater Boston’s entrepreneur and venture communities by providing timely and efficient delivery of a full complement of legal services and widening access to business management expertise and professional networks. The Center supplies a forum where entrepreneurs and industry thought leaders convene to exchange ideas and accelerate the progress of emerging enterprises.
In several of these significant economic drivers, employers routinely require employees to sign various types of agreements restricting their activities during and after their employment. As a company’s intellectual property is placed at risk every time a valued employee walks out the door, the movement of talent between companies – particularly competitors – begets litigation. The Massachusetts Noncompete Law blog focuses on developments in the Commonwealth in the areas of covenants not to compete, non-solicitation and non-disclosure agreements, trade secrets and the many related issues that arise when employees move between employers. As court decisions and other legal developments arise, this blog will describe them and discuss their implications for the businesses and individuals affected by these developments.
