Mr. Slotnik, former director of Medicare-Medicaid reimbursements at Biotechnology Industry Organization joins Foley Hoag

Adding to its leading team of life sciences regulatory attorneys and policy specialists, Foley Hoag LLP announced that Jayson Slotnik, a former director of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements at the Biotechnology Industry Organization, has joined the firm’s Government Strategies practice in Washington, DC.

Mr. Slotnik arrives from the Washington office of Hogan & Hartson, where he counseled clients on Medicare and Medicaid coverage, as well as reimbursement and coding issues covering medical devices, diagnostic tests, drugs, and biologics.   He becomes Of Counsel at Foley Hoag.

At BIO, the principal trade organization for the global biotech industry, Mr. Slotnik served for three years (2004-2007) as Director for Medicare Reimbursement and Economic Policy.  At BIO, Mr. Slotnik handled matters relating to Medicare coverage, coding and payment of drugs and biologics. He was regularly called on to testify before the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services, as well as interact with Congressional staff regarding payment policy proposals.  In addition to advising members on reimbursement strategies, Mr. Slotnik counseled BIO members on business development issues and worked with membership and affiliate groups to develop reimbursement policies on complex diagnostic tests and other medical therapies.

“Jayson Slotnik is another huge addition to our health care and life sciences bench.  He is extremely well versed in the key regulatory challenges facing the biotech industry and has an expansive knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues,” said Brian Carey, head of the regulatory group within Foley Hoag’s Government Strategies practice.  “His expertise fits perfectly with the needs of our life sciences clients who seek to develop and market new breakthrough products and treatments.”

Mr. Slotnik also has extensive private sector health care experience.  Prior to law school, he was a project manager for a consulting firm focused on epidemiology and occupational health, where he designed scientific studies regarding indoor air quality, hospital mortality rates, and Fen-Phen-related injuries. He spent time as a senior analyst for a legislative firm, monitoring Medicaid and Medicare programs for healthcare technology clients.   He was also a reimbursement analyst for a pharmaceutical consulting firm, reporting on federal and state Medicare and Medicaid programs and other government reimbursement policies.

Mr. Slotnik received his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law, his Master’s in Public Health from George Washington University and his B.A. from Rochester University.
