Council on Foreign Relations Issues Report on ICC Review: Foley Hoag Partner Gare Smith Serves on Advisory Board

Boston, MA - June 29, 2010

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) recently issued a report, From Rome to Kampala: The U.S. Approach to the 2010 International Criminal Court Review Conference, exploring the role of the international court and the U.S. policy toward it.  Gare Smith, Foley Hoag partner and Chair of the Corporate Social Responsibility practice, was one of several distinguished members of the report’s advisory committee.

The CFR publishes a number of policy briefs throughout the year, designed to provide rapid response to a developing crisis or provide a discussion framework to the public regarding an emerging issue.  Advisory committees for each report are sounding boards for the authors and provide feedback on drafts of the reports.  The Advisory Committee on the above report includes Mr. Smith and several leading academics, policy experts, and other lawyers in private practice.

Foley Hoag’s CSR practice, the only one of its kind among major U.S. law firms, helps clients anticipate challenges and mitigate risks by incorporating internationally recognized standards into their strategic planning, crisis response strategies, and relationships with community and industry stakeholders.  Lawyers in the practice create legal strategies and business policies that incorporate respect for human rights and comply with all relevant existing laws and voluntary codes.
