With the accountable care organizations (ACO) federal proposed regulations finally unveiled, physicians, hospitals, payors and other stakeholders are carefully weighing the framework that has been laid out to implement the new Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued the ACO proposed rule on March 31, 2011, and will accept public comments on the proposed rule through June 6, 2011.
