Rankings Represent 28% of Partnership

Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2011 has ranked 26 Foley Hoag LLP lawyers across 12 practice categories, representing 28 percent of the firm’s partnership.

The lawyers were ranked in the following practice categories: Antitrust, Bankruptcy and Restructuring, Corporate/M&A, Environment, Healthcare, Hedge and Mutual Funds, Intellectual Property, Labor and Employment, Litigation: General Commercial, Litigation: White-Collar Crime and Government Investigations, and Private Equity: Venture Capital Investment. The firm was recognized nationally in the International Arbitration category.

Foley Hoag’s Environmental practice retained its top-tier Band 1 ranking in the 2011 edition. According to Chambers, sources called Foley Hoag a “leading environmental firm with a long bench of excellent attorneys doing top-shelf work.”

The Bankruptcy and Restructuring Group received praise as “popular with major businesses, financial institutions and governmental agencies,” according to Chambers. Sources called the group “a deep bench of proficient attorneys.”

The Corporate/M&A team was recognized for advising Art Technology Group on its recent $1 billion sale to Oracle. The group also maintains “an impressive presence on the buyer side, particularly targeting hi-tech startups, acting for both private equity houses and strategic buyers.” Sources told Chambers that the practice’s lawyers are “incredibly responsive, they work very effectively and efficiently and . . . they're also very much in tune with the business side of things.”

Foley Hoag’s Healthcare practice advises a variety of clients on the various business and regulatory challenges affecting the sector, Chambers noted. Its lawyers are known for “being at the forefront of healthcare law for decades,” Chambers wrote.

The Hedge and Mutual Fund Group was noted as a “very robust practice: the lawyers are cohesive and congenial,” with sources praising the “practical approach, responsiveness and technical skill” of the team.

Chambers noted that the firm’s “impressive” Intellectual Property practice “covers the gamut of IP matters, ranging from trademark, patent, copyright and trade secret matters to patent and trademark prosecution,” offering services to a “variety of industries, including banking, energy, technology and life sciences.”

Foley Hoag’s Litigation team provides “litigation advice on securities, IP and employment disputes, business crime and government investigations and accountant liability,” according to Chambers.

Chambers recommended Foley Hoag in the Private Equity: Venture Capital Investment category “for its strong technical ability and work ethic,” supplementing its traditional experience handling venture transactions for the software and technology with increasing deal flow in energy and life sciences.
