Michael Keating Named Chairman of SJC Search Committee for Court Administrator Selection Process

November 22, 2011

Michael Keating, chairman of Foley Hoag LLP’s Litigation Department, has been appointed by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to chair the search committee to recruit the Court Administrator for the Massachusetts Trial Court, a new leadership position created by recently enacted legislation.

The search committee consists of 12 people, including judges, court officials and local business leaders, and will help the Justices of the SJC select the Court Administrator. The new position, working in conjunction with the Chief Justice of the Trial Court, will oversee administrative functions to ensure that judges and court staff have modern, effective and efficient support systems. The administrator will implement policies consistent with the goals set forth in recent court management reports.

The SJC expects to appoint the court administrator in early 2012, before the court-reform legislation becomes fully effective on July 1, 2012.

Keating chaired the Court Management Advisory Board, which for the first time introduced modern court management techniques to the administration of the courts in Massachusetts and led the way to recently enacted ground-breaking court reform legislation.

A fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Keating has been one of Foley Hoag’s leading trial lawyers for more than 30 years. Consistently listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA and Massachusetts Super Lawyers and recognized by The National Law Journal, he practices extensively in both the federal and state courts. Keating has represented major corporate clients in diverse matters. He also has substantial experience in the arbitration and mediation of commercial disputes both as counsel and as an arbitrator/mediator. He is a Past President of the Boston Bar Association and currently is the chair of the Board of The Boston Foundation.
