Five Lawyers Promoted to Foley Hoag Partnership

Foley Hoag LLP has promoted five lawyers to the firm’s partnership, effective January 1.
The new partners add depth to Foley Hoag’s market-leading practices in emerging companies, intellectual property litigation, international litigation and arbitration, and securities litigation.

The new partners are:

Brian Carroll, who represents clients in a variety of intellectual property disputes, primarily patent and trade secret litigation. He also represents clients in other complex civil litigation matters. Brian has experience with a wide range of products and technologies, including circuitry and electronics, mechanical systems, software systems, medical devices and pharmaceutical formulations. In addition to litigation, Brian also represents clients in obtaining pre-litigation opinions and in re-examination proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Mélida Hodgson, whose practice focuses on international litigation and arbitration, particularly investor-state arbitrations. She counsels governments and private entities with respect to international investment protection, World Trade Organization dispute resolution and trade policy issues. She advises entities with regard to compliance with foreign investment policies, including U.S. national security review of foreign investment. Mélida also serves as an arbitrator of international trade disputes brought under Chapter 19 of the North American Free Trade Agreement and was appointed to the list of panelists eligible to hear WTO disputes.

David Kluft, who has a wide-ranging litigation practice with strong emphases on commercial litigation and trademark and copyright matters. He represents companies in a variety of industries, including entertainment, finance and investing, automotive, high-tech, health care, real estate, and education. David’s practice also includes substantial appellate work, representation of clients in federal and state government investigations, and internal investigations for large corporations and governmental entities.

Matthew Miller, whose litigation practice focuses on complex litigation in the areas of accountants’ professional liability, securities and shareholder lawsuits, white-collar and business crimes, governmental investigations, and complex commercial disputes. Matthew has represented many different accounting firms, including the “Big Four” and other national and regional firms, in securities and accounting malpractice claims and in regulatory investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Internal Revenue Service. He has extensive experience in dealing with the production of electronically stored information and related e-discovery issues.

Robert Warren, who counsels public and private companies on mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, and strategic relationships. He has advised corporate clients on dozens of angel and venture financings and regularly represents entrepreneurs and venture capitalists on a wide range of issues in support of their companies’ growth, from compensation strategies to liquidity transactions. Robert’s clients reflect the New England technology economy, with heavy concentrations in life sciences, clean technology, software and e-commerce. He is one of the original lawyers at Foley Hoag’s Emerging Enterprise Center.
