Maia Larsson, an Associate in the firm’s life sciences and government strategies practice, focuses her practice on statutory and regulatory issues involving the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), as well as general health policy matters. Maia’s work includes advice to clients including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies on Medicare coverage, reimbursement and compliance.

In particular, Maia’s practice emphasizes strategic counseling to healthcare and life sciences clients on regulatory and administrative processes and federal legislative matters. She also advises on health information technology and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act included as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. With the enactment of health care reform legislation, Maia’s practice also includes counsel on new payment authorities, reimbursement issues, and CMS’ expanded regulatory authority.

As a third year law student at Boston University, Maia gained experience in health law during her legal externship in the Office of General Counsel at Boston Medical Center. Maia also expanded her knowledge of the developing field of health law as a staff member for the AMERICAN JOURNAL OF LAW AND MEDICINE during her second and third years of law school. After her first year of law school, Maia served as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Joseph L. Tauro of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

Before law school, Maia spent three years working for U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein on Capitol Hill. As a legislative correspondent, she focused on healthcare and researched legislation and policy issues including Medicare, Medicaid, prescription drugs, FDA and the National Institutes of Health.
