Although not required, experience in the Life Sciences or Technology industries would be helpful. Fluency in a language in addition to English would also be a plus.

  • Product Liability Case Assistant

    February 2, 2018

    Seeking a highly organized and self-motivated individual to assist a legal team by performing both routine and analytical writing, research, and communication tasks associated with product liability cases.  Must be a team player yet capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.

    Responsibilities:

    • Communicate with team members, other counsel and client regarding status, tasks, pending deadlines, etc., including summarizing key information on facts, strategy, and deadlines.
    • Maintain case management database and case calendars, including recording case details and reviewing all correspondence, and communicate all deadlines and relevant tasks to team as necessary.
    • Draft or compile various deadline/task lists, case status reports, billing and budget estimates, defense cost statistics, etc., for both internal and external reporting.
    • Contribute to overall case strategy by reviewing documents, interviewing client personnel, conducting Internet and occasional legal research, and preparing summaries of work for team members.
    • Review all discovery materials and help formulate case defenses and/or areas for further investigation.
    • Review medical and scientific literature and prepare related analyses for use in developing expert reports and testimony for deposition or trial.
    • Review and summarize case-specific medical records and scientific reports.
    • Administrative projects including maintaining electronic and hard copy files; obtaining documents from various courts and outside counsel; assisting with document production; monitoring relevant email distribution lists; attending case team and practice group meetings; etc.

The individual must be able to apply this information correctly to each client portfolio assigned to them in order to meet critical deadlines related to foreign formality filing requirements.     Foley Hoag seeks a Patent Docket Specialist with a solid understanding of the United States, International and various foreign Patent Office rules, procedures and guidelines. He/she must be able to apply this information correctly when reviewing PTO submissions to ensure we are meeting the requirements set in the respective communications. The integrity of the information maintained in the system is vital to ensuring the legal staff meet critical deadlines. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: creating and maintaining patent prosecution files, maintaining database, entering deadlines and other case-specific data into docketing system, interpreting documents and identifying deadlines, preparing weekly and periodic reports, and following-up on deadlines.     Foley Hoag’s Licensing & Strategic Alliances and Technology practice groups are seeking a lawyer with a minimum of four years of tech transfer experience for our Boston or New York offices.  Candidates must have experience in the full range of agreements used by software,  hardware and other technology companies to acquire or commercialize their intellectual property, technology, products and services, including in-bound and out-bound strategic license agreements; end user license agreements; software-as-a-service (SaaS), cloud service, consulting, and other services agreements; website terms of service; support and maintenance agreements; service level agreements; evaluation and beta license agreements; OEM, reseller and distributor agreements; and open source licenses.

    Experience in any of the following areas would be a plus:

    • Patent license agreements, both university and commercial.
    • Life sciences agreements – licenses and other agreements such as clinical study agreements, collaboration agreements, sponsored research agreements, and material transfer agreements.
    • Trademark license agreements.
    • Publishing agreements, copyright permissions and publicity releases.
    • Privacy Policies, Information Security Agreements.
    • Technology transactions support in reviewing IP provisions (representations and warranties, etc.) in stock purchase, merger and asset purchase agreements.
