In Memoriam: Stacey Sachs

April 24, 2012

Foley Hoag mourns the loss of friend and colleague Stacey Sachs, who passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2012.

Stacey joined Foley Hoag's Washington, D.C. office in July 2010 as counsel in the Administrative Department, where she advised health care providers on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, also known as the universal health care law. She had particular expertise advising clients on health care delivery and quality improvement proposals, and representing life sciences clients with complex Medicare and Medicaid regulatory matters at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Stacey also worked with several national patient groups and disability advocates in support of universal health care.

Prior to joining Foley Hoag, Stacey was health counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, a role she held under the late Senator Edward Kennedy and Senator Tom Harkin. In this capacity, she was involved with a wide range of issues, including Massachusetts health reform, Medicare prescription drugs, Medicare reimbursement, health insurance coverage and reimbursement, Medicaid, HIPAA, ERISA, and many others. Before the Senate, she worked in the Office of the Chief Administrative Law Judge in the Social Security Administration, supervising the team of attorneys responsible for handling Medicare Part B appeals. Stacey was also an attorney advisor with the U.S. Department of Labor in the Office of Administrative Law Judges.

She is survived by her mother, Sandy Sachs, and her two brothers, Bruce and Howard Sachs.
