Partner Marty Murphy Co-Chaired BBA Task Force That Drafted Post-Conviction DNA Testing Legislation

February 10, 2012

Foley Hoag LLP litigation partner Martin Murphy co-chaired the Boston Bar Association task force that drafted legislation recently passed by the Massachusetts Legislature to provide access to post-conviction forensic analysis.

The BBA Task Force on Preventing Wrongful Convictions was formed in 2008 and later issued recommendations to prevent wrongful convictions, including the legislation that passed Feb. 8. When the task force began its work, Massachusetts was one of only four states without a statutory right of post-conviction access to DNA evidence.

The task force included professionals from all aspects of the legal profession and criminal justice system, including prosecutors and defense attorneys. Marty practices in the areas of criminal defense, regulatory investigations and high-stakes civil litigation. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

The Boston Bar Association is a non-profit, voluntary membership organization of 10,000 attorneys drawn from private practice, government agencies, legal aid organizations, the courts and law schools.
