Foley Hoag’s Robert Sawyer Appointed Director of International Hedge Fund Association’s Boston Chapter

December 3, 2013

Foley Hoag LLP lawyer Robert G. Sawyer has been appointed regional director of the Boston Chapter of the Hedge Fund Association, an international organization that promotes the growth of hedge funds and their role as trustworthy investment vehicles.

HFA is a non-profit group that supports a broad range of programming such as educational programs for hedge fund professionals and fundraisers to support philanthropic groups like Autism Speaks and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Sawyer will be responsible for directing the HFA’s local events and contributing to the organization’s mission of advancing transparency, development and trust, and alternative investments.

“All HFA Leaders, elected and appointed, volunteer to help foster the growth of the hedge fund industry,” said HFA President Mitch Ackles. “Robert Sawyer is among our latest class of new leaders, each highly accomplished senior professionals who will add to the wealth of talent and business development opportunities available to HFA members locally and around the world.”

Sawyer’s practice at Foley Hoag is focused on investment advisers and private investment funds, including hedge funds, private equity and venture capital funds, and small business investment companies. As co-chair of the firm’s investment management practice, Sawyer assists advisers with the formation and structuring of domestic and offshore investment funds, as well as a range of regulatory compliance matters, including formulation of policies and procedures tailored to their business, advice and assistance with respect to current regulatory developments and compliance with registration and reporting requirements.

“Bob’s nuanced knowledge of hedge funds and the laws and issues that surround them are a great asset to the Hedge Fund Association,” said Foley Hoag Business Department Chair Jeffrey D. Collins. “Boston members can look forward to dynamic leadership in expanding their opportunities for professional advancement and public service.”
