Foley Hoag Ranked in Top 10 Worldwide for International Arbitration by The American Lawyer
July 26, 2013
Foley Hoag LLP was ranked in the top 10 worldwide in international arbitrations by The American Lawyer’s Arbitration Scorecard 2013. Rankings were released in a special "Focus Europe" insert in the publication's July 2013 edition.
Foley Hoag rose to No. 7 in 2013 from No. 10 in 2011, the last year the Arbitration Scorecard was published. The firm was noted for handling 14 arbitrations from 2011-2012, including several for a range of sovereign clients.
Foley Hoag's representation of Venezuela in Vannessa Ventures v. Venezuela, an arbitration brought by a Canadian mining company involving a claim of damages worth more than US$1 billion under the bilateral investment treaty between Canada and Venezuela, was cited as one of the listing's “Biggest Defense Wins, 2011-2013.”
The 2013 Arbitration Scorecard covers international arbitrations that were active in the years 2011 and 2012: 165 treaty arbitrations worth at least $100 million and 109 contract arbitrations worth at least $500 million. The American Lawyer relies primarily on information supplied by lawyers involved in the cases, supplemented in some instances by arbitration or court papers, securities disclosures and media reports.
