Foley Hoag Partner Claire Laporte to Speak at Personalized Medicine and Intellectual Property Conference

Foley Hoag patent litigation partner Claire Laporte will be a speaker at the Personalized Medicine and Intellectual Property Conference, hosted by Boston University School of Law, on August 25, 2014. At the conference, over 30 legal, business and economic experts will weigh in on recent legal and regulatory developments and their potential short- and long-term consequences.

Laporte's session, entitled “Enforcement of Personalized Medicine Patents,” will examine the barriers to enforcing patents in the diagnostic space, and the incentives and disincentives supplied by the patent system and the regulatory framework for innovators in diagnostics. She will be joined by Christopher Holman, Professor of Law at University of Missouri-Kansas City and Rachel Sachs, Academic Fellow at Harvard University's Petrie-Flom Center and John M. Olin Center for Law, Economics and Business.

Additional sessions on the agenda include: Legal and Regulatory Context of Personalized Medicine: Privacy, Consent, FDA Regulation, Reimbursement; Economic Issues Related to Personalized Medicine; Patentable Subject Matter; Access to Clinical Trial Data; Patent-based Incentives/Disincentives; Trade Secrecy and Data Transparency; Impact of IP on Academic Research on Personalized Medicine; and Non-patent-based Incentives.
