Foley Hoag Broadens the Coverage of its Paris Office With the Recruitment of New Practices in Environmental and Public Law

January 6, 2014

Foley Hoag announces the arrival of three new partners in its Paris office: Carine Le Roy-Gleizes, Frédéric Scanvic and Corentin Chevallier, who will, along with their associates, continue their practices in the public and environmental law sectors.

“When we opened Foley Hoag’s Paris office in June 2011, one of our goals was to, over time, expand the office by adding outstanding lawyers who help us strengthen our core practice areas and better serve our clients,” says Paris managing partner Bruno Leurent. “The arrival of Carine Le Roy-Gleizes, Frédéric Scanvic and Corentin Chevallier marks a broadening of our practice areas and, hence, an important step toward achieving this goal.”

Previously a partner in the environmental law practice of Winston & Strawn’s Paris office, Carine Le Roy-Gleizes has broad experience in the environmental law sector, including in advising clients in carrying out their industrial projects and in managing environmental liability and all associated liability issues. She acts both on litigious and advisory matters, including on contract law issues, for industrial actors in the energy, chemical, agri-food, and environmental services industries, as well as for a variety of public entities. She earned graduate degrees in business law and economic law from the Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne.

Frédéric Scanvic brings to the firm his very significant experience in the public law and environmental law fields. Formerly a partner with Winston & Strawn in Paris, he advises public and private law entities in matters relating to energy and infrastructure, as well as in other industries subject to regulation at the French and European levels. He is an honorary member of the Conseil d’État and has held a number of positions of responsibility within the public sector. A graduate of the École Supérieure de Commerce de Paris, he also holds a doctorate in economics from the Université Paris IX Dauphine and is an alumnus of the École Nationale d'Administration.

Corentin Chevallier likewise joins the Paris office as a partner in Foley Hoag AARPI. Dually trained in public and private law, he began his career at Boivin & Associés, a firm specializing in environmental law, where he practiced for several years before joining the environmental law department of Winston & Strawn as a senior associate. His expertise lies in the environmental and mining law sectors. He assists his industrial clientele on litigious and non-litigious matters on legal questions relating to mining, regulated industrial facilities, polluted buildings and land, waste management, water, atmospheric emissions, and climate change. He holds a DEA degree in public law from the Université Paris-Sud Sceaux and a DESS in litigation from the Université Paris V-Malakoff; he is also a graduate of the Institut de Droit Public des Affaires.

Le Roy-Gleizes, Scanvic and Chevallier are joined by three associates: Jean-Philippe Maginot, Émilie Choux and Hana Doumal. They will focus on supporting the new practice areas. In conjunction with their law studies, each of these associates previously completed internships at various entities including leading Paris and UK law firms and within France’s Ministry of Ecology and the French Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs.

Le Roy-Gleizes, Scanvic and Chevallier will augment Foley Hoag’s leading environmental law practice. For more than thirty years, members of that practice have counseled energy companies, major manufacturers, emerging businesses, environmental technology firms, institutions, municipalities, state authorities and sovereign governments on environmental compliance, litigation, and transactional issues. In addition to their traditional environmental practices, they regularly work with the firm’s energy & cleantech and corporate social responsibility practices on emerging environmental issues. Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business has named Foley Hoag to its top tier of environmental law practice in Massachusetts every year from 2003-2013.
