Foley Hoag Partner Andrew Z. Schwartz Recognized by Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston

Attorney Receives Robert B. Fraser Award for Pro Bono Excellence

June 11, 2014

Foley Hoag LLP partner Andrew Z. Schwartz was a recipient of the Arts & Business Council (A&BC) of Greater Boston's Robert B. Fraser Award for Pro Bono Excellence, presented at the organization's Martinis & Masterpieces event on June 10 in Cambridge, Mass.

The Fraser Award is given annually by the A&BC and its Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (VLA) program to individual lawyers, law firms or legal services organizations that show a sincere dedication to serving the legal needs of the cultural and artistic communities of Massachusetts.

Schwartz, former Foley Hoag associate Joshua Pemstein, and two attorneys from Brown Rudnick LLP were recognized for their volunteered services in a landmark case under the Massachusetts Fine Arts Consignment Statute that saw 13 artists challenge the trustee of a bankrupt gallery for ownership of their works.

"I am honored to receive this highly-regarded award from the Arts & Business Council," Schwartz said. "Through this organization and its Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts program, which Foley Hoag has long supported, I am extremely pleased to have had the opportunity to fight for the rights of artists throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts."

The VLA program provides legal services, advice and education programming to artists and cultural organizations in Massachusetts. The VLA accomplishes its mission through the work of a panel of nearly 400 attorneys who volunteer their time and services to provide legal counsel, education, and organizational support to the Massachusetts arts community.
