Foley Hoag Lawyers Claire Laporte and Susan Montgomery to Participate in U.S. Patent & Trademark Hearings
October 1, 2014
On Friday, October 3, 2014, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office's Trademark Trial & Appeal Board (TTAB) and Patent Trial & Appeal Board (PTAB) will hold hearings at Northeastern University School of Law. Foley Hoag lawyers Susan Montgomery, of counsel to the firm, and partner Claire Laporte will take part in this special event, which is co-sponsored by the Boston Patent Law Association (BPLA) and Northeastern University School of Law.
The morning program will concentrate on trademarks at the TTAB, with presentations including "Why the TTAB is Not Like the PTAB or District Court" (delivered by TTAB Chief Judge Gerard Rogers) and “The Top 8 or 9 Losing TTAB Arguments.” A three judge panel of the TTAB will hear the final argument in an inter partes proceeding, after which Foley Hoag of counsel Susan Montgomery will lead a question-and-answer period among attendees.
Foley Hoag partner Claire Laporte will lead off the afternoon session, which is focused on patents. Laporte will speak on "Emerging Issues in AIA PTAB Proceeding: Obviousness.” A hearing before a three judge panel of the PTAB will follow.
The Boston Patent Law Association provides educational programs and a forum for the interchange of ideas and information concerning patent, trademark, and copyright laws. Through a volunteer Board of Governors and its various committees, the BPLA organizes and hosts educational seminars, social events and conventions. The Association also comments on rules and legislation affecting the profession.
The hearings will be held in the Moot Court Room on the campus of Northeastern University School of Law in Boston. Click here for more information.
