Foley Hoag, Attorneys to Take Part in 2015 BIO International Convention

May 19, 2015

Foley Hoag and several of its attorneys will take part in the 2015 BIO International Convention, being held June 15–18 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

For the past nine years, the firm has participated in the annual international convention - one of the largest biotech gatherings in the world - via speaking panels, as an exhibitor and as a special event host. The following is a list of Foley Hoag events and speaking engagements at this year’s BIO convention:

June 15-18 - Attendees are welcome to stop by Foley Hoag’s information booth (#4019, near the Business Center Zone) in the Pennsylvania Convention Center Exhibit Hall. The booth will be staffed by a rotating schedule of Foley Hoag business, intellectual property, licensing and government strategies attorneys, and representatives from the firm’s Marketing & Business Development team.

Mon. June 15 - Foley Hoag will host “Korean Life Sciences Executives Lunch: Key Strategies for Korean Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Companies Seeking IP Protection and U.S. FDA Approval” at Le Méridien Philadelphia, 1421 Arch Street. Partners Paul Kim and David Halstead, together with Hemmie Chang, chair of the firm’s Licensing & Strategic Alliances practice, will lead a discussion on how emerging Korean Life Science companies can leverage U.S. patents and regulatory relationships to foster successful business in the United States.

Tues. June 16 - The firm will host its annual cocktail reception at Del Frisco's Steakhouse, 1426 Chestnut Street. The event will provide an opportunity for Foley Hoag attorneys, BIO guests, and friends of the firm to gather for a casual evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and networking.

Wed. June 17 - Foley Hoag partner Hemmie Chang will moderate “Have It All? How to Address and Communicate Deal Contingencies” (Business Development & Finance track). Panelists will include Curtis Hecht, Vice President of Business and Corporate Development at Calithera Biosciences; Scott Koenig, President & CEO at MacroGenics; and Sue Washer, CEO at Applied Genetic Technologies Corporation (AGTC). The group will examine the various challenges of managing and messaging deal issues while under the public spotlight.

Thurs. June 18 - Foley Hoag partner Barbara Fiacco will be a panelist for “Who Has the Keys to Your IP? Protecting Against Intellectual Property Theft” (Intellectual Property track). Joining Fiacco will be fellow panelists Michael Clarke, Corporate Counsel at E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company; and Scott Rittman, Associate Chief Intellectual Property Counsel, Life Sciences at Becton, Dickinson and Company. The interactive panel will address a range of risks to a company’s trade secrets and discuss how to protect them at every stage of a company’s growth.

The annual BIO International Convention covers the industry’s most relevant and timely topics from healthcare, food and agriculture, industrial and environmental, to finance and business development. Each session at the event offers insights on issues essential to the industry and fosters audience engagement and networking opportunities around session topics.
