Foley Hoag Recognized By Yale Law Women as a Top 10 Family Friendly Law Firm in the U.S.
July 14, 2016
Yale Law Women, a student organization of Yale Law School, has named Foley Hoag LLP among the top ten law firms in the U.S. with the strongest family friendly atmospheres and practices.
Yale Law Women produces its annual Family Friendly Firms list to monitor trends in family friendliness among law firms, draw attention to gender disparities within the legal profession, highlight progress being made in the industry and identify areas for improvement. Specifically, it reviews and analyzes important family friendliness indicators by collecting data on each firm’s policies relating to professional development, gender equity, part-time and flex-time, parental/family leaves and accommodations, billing requirements and pro bono.
"Foley Hoag is relentlessly devoted to its clients, and to being a premiere and entrepreneurial provider of legal services in the areas where we excel. Supporting the development and personal satisfaction of our attorneys helps us achieve those goals," said Co-Managing Partner Adam Kahn. "While rankings and statistics alone cannot capture the professional and cultural benefits of our firm, we are pleased to have been included among the top law firms as ranked by associates in The Vault and American Lawyer Media annual surveys as well as on the Boston Globe's Top Places to Work for our Boston office. Foley Hoag’s inclusion on the Yale Law Women’s Family Friendly Firms list is a welcome addition to those listings."
"We are honored to be recognized by Yale Law Women for our efforts to cultivate a supportive work environment,” said Foley Hoag partner Barbara Fiacco. "These efforts are part of Foley Hoag's broader goal of ensuring that our attorneys have everything they need to be successful lawyers, provide exemplary service to clients and become leaders and individuals within the firm, community and at home.” Fiacco is member of the firm’s hiring committee and helped launch the Foley Hoag Women’s Forum, an initiative dedicated to the professional development, advancement and retention of women attorneys at Foley Hoag.
Patrick Connolly, a senior associate who joined Foley Hoag in 2010 following law school, has experienced first-hand the firm's highly comprehensive benefits that contributed to its inclusion on Yale Law Women's Family Friendly Firms list.
"I was first introduced to Foley Hoag when I was a summer associate, and it offered me everything I was looking for professionally as I was beginning my legal career," Connolly said. "It wasn't until I had been there for several years and was growing my family that I would fully realize how important its perspectives and outlooks with regard to families would be to me personally."
Kristyn Bunce DeFilipp, also a senior associate who joined the firm in 2010 after graduating from law school, echoed Connolly's praise of Foley Hoag.
"In my six years at Foley Hoag, I have never felt that I was denied opportunities due to my family status," Bunce DeFilipp said. "I've been able to proactively manage my career development with the firm's support, all while taking two maternity leaves in three years."
The firm’s culture has enabled Bunce DeFilipp, who co-chairs the firm's Women Associates group and serves on the firm’s hiring committee, to continue to grow her practice while simultaneously being available to her family.
Through programming, resources and mentorship opportunities, Yale Law Women works to advance the status of women at Yale Law School and in the legal profession at large.
