Thomas Grissom Joins Foley Hoag LLP As Senior Health Policy Specialist in Life Sciences and Government Strategies Practices

Foley Hoag LLP, a business and litigation law firm of 250 attorneys with offices in Boston and Washington, D.C., proudly announces the addition of Thomas Grissom as Senior Health Policy Specialist in its rapidly expanding Life Sciences and Government Strategies practices.
Foley Hoag's Government Strategies Practice is extensively involved with the development of legislation and regulations affecting the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device and health care provider industries. Foley Hoag represents a number of leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies in connection with government strategies for legislative, regulatory and administrative matters. The Life Sciences Practice Group serves an international clientele in emerging technology and health care, as well as top research institutions and universities, along the continuum from bench discovery to product distribution in global markets.
Mr. Grissom's unique insights into federal health policy will greatly enhance Foley Hoag's practice of advising clients on the development, approval, coverage and reimbursement of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology products and medical devices. Mr. Grissom is the immediate past Director of the Center for Medicare Management (CMM) at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). As CMM Director, Mr. Grissom had responsibility for developing reimbursement policies and regulations for the fee-for-service Medicare program in the Department of Health and Human Services. Mr. Grissom also managed the Medicare program's 50 contractors that process 1 billion claims a year and make provider payments of more than $240 billion.

Following his public service with CMS, Mr. Grissom was the Vice President of Federal Affairs for Boston Scientific Corporation, a worldwide developer, manufacturer, and marketer of medical devices. Mr. Grissom managed the company's Washington, D.C. office, with responsibility for global governmental policy issues impacting the medical device industry.
Prior to joining CMS, Mr. Grissom was sole proprietor of a Washington, D.C. health care consulting firm that advised clients on a variety of policy issues affecting public health programs, hospital and nursing home reimbursement, and the development and adoption of new medical technologies. Grissom's 15 years of healthcare experience prior to moving to Washington included operational and policy experience with Louisville-based Humana, Inc., and Vencor, now Kindred Healthcare Corporation. His last position at Kindred was as Vice-president of Government Affairs. Mr. Grissom is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and holds advance degrees from Columbia University and Stanford University.
