Foley Hoag Joins Clean Energy Executives and Opinion Leaders in Congratulating Massachusetts Officials for Release of Clean Jobs Act

Boston, MA - May 20, 2008

Foley Hoag recently joined a select group of clean energy executives, opinion leaders, and public policy officials at the unveiling of the Clean Jobs Act. The unveiling, led by Massachusetts Speaker of the House, Salvatore F. DiMasi, is considered a major step forward for clean energy investment in Massachusetts.

The legislation will establish the Massachusetts Clean Energy Technology Center, designed to fund clean energy instruction and research. Three key programs within the Center identified as priorities include the Clean Energy Seed Grant Program, the Clean Energy Fellowship Program and the Green Jobs Initiative. The proposed program will be a five-year, $100 million spending program designed to boost the cleantech sector and keep green jobs in the state.

The legislation was initially announced in mid-March of this year and advanced quickly, demonstrating the commitment of cleantech stakeholders to identifying fast and effective ways of advancing the sector, and also the importance the cleantech sector in general as one of the drivers of the state’s economy. One of the key stakeholders, the New England Clean Energy Council, played a significant role in bringing the legislation to fruition. Lawyers in Foley Hoag’s Energy Technology and Renewables practice serve as counsel to the organization.

In addition to Speaker DiMasi, Governor Deval Patrick and Senate President Therese Murray were on hand with the cleantech executives to celebrate the successful launch of the initiative.
