At Foley Hoag, Charles maintains domestic and international trademark portfolios, prosecutes trademark applications in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and instructs and liaises with foreign counsel in the prosecution of foreign trademark applications.

Charles has substantial experience in preparing pleadings, motions and briefs in USPTO adversarial proceedings, preparing arguments and briefs in foreign prosecution and adversarial proceedings, and performing due diligence audits of trademark portfolios. Charles also works on worldwide trademark assignments, analyzes U.S. and foreign trademark searches and advises clients as to the availability of proposed marks. He challenges infringers and defends against claims of infringement, negotiates dispute resolutions and drafts settlement agreements, and consults in trademark infringement litigation.
Charles gives presentations and educational seminars on the topics of trademark law and practice. He hosts International Trademark Association (INTA) Roundtables and firm trademark luncheons, and is also a co-editor of Foley Hoag’s Trademark & Copyright Law blog.
