Jamie L. Matthews
Jamie Matthews advises and represents corporations and other employers in all aspects of labor and employment law. She has substantial experience advising on union-related concerns such as organizing campaigns, labor arbitrations and collective bargaining. She also advises corporate clients on the labor and employment aspects of mergers and acquisitions. In general employment matters, Jamie frequently defends clients against discrimination, harassment and wage and hour lawsuits. In addition, she drafts employment agreements, handbooks and policies and helps ensure that employers comply with both state and federal employment law statutes.
As part of her practice, Jamie represents employers in federal and state courts, before administrative agencies including the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the National Labor Relations Board, as well as before the American Arbitration Association. Before joining Foley Hoag, she completed an internship at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Massachusetts.

- Obtained dismissal of wrongful discharge and sexual harassment claims against a national retailer
- Obtained a favorable outcome for an employer dealing with unlawful strike activities
- Represented a large restaurant chain in a federal age discrimination case
- Successfully defeated a unit clarification petition that sought to accrete employees to the bargaining unit
- Represented a hospital in a pregnancy discrimination case
- Obtained a favorable decision against an employee who claimed he was wrongfully terminated and deprived of a bonus and other payments
- Obtained a recommendation that election results in favor of union representation be set aside based upon ineligibility of a single voter
