Matt Eckert’s diverse business law practice focuses on advising start-up and emerging growth clients across the spectrum of development stages on early-stage business matters, commercial transactions, capital-raising and mergers and acquisitions, as well as representing venture funds in their portfolio investments. He regularly advises publicly traded clients on matters of corporate finance, including public and private equity and high-yield debt offerings, buy-side acquisitions, and securities law compliance. In addition to being a partner at Foley Hoag, Matt serves as Co-Chair of the firm's Emerging Company and Venture Capital group.

Representative Experience

  • Represents numerous start-up and early stage clients in connection with general start-up and corporate advice, as well as seed stage and venture financing, including Ginger.io, grabCAD, Care Thread, docTrackr, Timbre and Zeppelin
  • Represented GMZ Energy in successive financing tranches with aggregate proceeds in excess of $10 million, as well in general corporate advice
  • Represented Belmont Technology Inc. in its $9mm Series A financing 
  • Represented FitNow, developer of the Lose It! weight-loss app, in its Series A financing led by United Healthcare and in ongoing general corporate, licensing and strategic partnership matters
  • Has represented numerous venture capital firms, including Polaris Venture Partners, TVM Capital, Harris & Harris and Cue Ball Capital in their portfolio investment activities
  • Represented Alere, a global diagnostics and health management company, in its acquisition of MedApps
  • Represented enterprise network security provider Crossbeam Systems in its sale to Thoma Bravo
  • Represented Alere in numerous public and private high-yield debt offerings in an aggregate principal amount in excess of $1bn as well as related exchange offers, tender offers and consent solicitations
  • Represents therapeutic drug developer Novelos Therapeutics in general corporate matters, securities law reporting and compliance and private and public equity offerings
  • Represents healthcare management consulting firm Beacon Partners in general corporate matters and in its acquisition of Healthcare Innovative Solutions
