Given the needs of her clients for sophisticated and skilled professionals, Punam concentrates on filing H-1B petitions for temporary professional workers and L-1 petitions and blanket L petitions for intracompany transferees. She also pursues PERM labor certification and permanent residence matters, and is particularly successful in complex matters involving PERM labor certifications and the filing of EB-1 Multinational Executive petitions. Punam helps both employers and foreign nationals file temporary and permanent classification for “aliens of extraordinary ability” and “outstanding researchers/ permanent residence professionals.” She effectively pursues the “national interest waiver” in relation to a variety of different industries and positions.
Punam develops cost and time efficient strategies to pursue high volume processing of immigration petitions and applications for employers who have a large number of foreign national employees. In addition to overseeing the preparation of non-immigrant and immigrant visa petition filings of all types, Punam effectively counsels clients through government investigation of enforcement proceedings, including Labor Condition Application Audits conducted by the Department of Labor and I-9 Audits with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She regularly provides employment-related immigration training to human resources and legal staff for employer clients.
Punam assists individuals as well as employers with immigration needs. She has assisted many families file family re-unification applications in the U.S. and abroad. She has been particularly successful in representing “culturally unique” performers (P-1 Visa) and their essential personnel (P-3 Visa) seeking to tour in the U.S. Her work for individuals also includes representing those persons who have fled persecution in their home countries to seek political asylum in the U.S.
Punam has also provided clients in Congressional advocacy for changes in the law, which includes regular travel to Washington, DC for meetings with elected representatives and government agencies. Reflecting her comprehensive immigration practice, Punam is experienced at dealing with and appearing before the full range of government organizations responsible for immigration matters. She represents employers and individuals in the proceedings of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency. She also regularly deals with other relevant federal and state agencies.
