  • Patent Associate - Chemistry

    Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property Department has an opening in its Boston office for an associate who is a registered patent attorney with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry.

    We seek applicants with strong academic credentials, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and two to four years of patent prosecution experience after graduation from law school. Experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the areas of small molecules, pharmaceuticals, synthetic methods, polymer science and drug discovery would be particularly useful. Candidates are required to have a PTO registration.

    Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property Litigation group has an opening in the Boston office for a lawyer with a minimum of three to five years of experience in cases involving patent and other IP rights. The position will include representation of biopharma manufacturers, research institutions and universities in patent, inventorship, and contract disputes before U.S. courts, in arbitral proceedings, in the International Trade Commission, and in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. These disputes commonly involve IP licenses, collaboration agreements, and other IP-related issues as well. Experience working with life sciences companies and/or universities is preferred. A science degree is desirable, but not required.

Knowledge of artificial intelligence concepts is required, and course work in applied mathematics is a plus.

Technical experience in the areas of machine learning, image analysis, cryptography, and software architecture would be particularly useful. A successful candidate who is not a registered patent attorney will be expected to take and to pass the USPTO registration exam within a year of being hired.
