August 18, 2021
Foley Hoag LLP attorney Alejandra Torres Camprubí, PhD., will be presenting at the 7th Ocean Dialogue. The event, organized by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), and co-hosted by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) office and The British Embassy in Hanoi, will take place on August 19, 2021.
The Dialogue will be attended by experts and scholars in the fields, diplomatic missions in Hanoi, and representatives of relevant ministries, government agencies, and research institutions in Hanoi. With the theme “Emerging Maritime Issues from Legal Perspectives,” the 7th Ocean Dialogue intends to discuss the issues of freedom and safety of navigation and sea-level rise from the perspectives of international law.
Torres Camprubí will speak in Session 1 on the topic devoted to “Sea-level rise and Potential Legal Implications.” In light of the recent publication of the 6th Assessment Report of the IPCC, as well as the latest Declaration of the Pacific Islands Forum on “Preserving Maritime Zones in the Face of Climate Change and Sea-Level Rise” adopted on August 11, 2021, her presentation will specifically address the issue “Securing the Continuity of Low-lying Island States through the Protection of their Maritime Entitlements: a Reflection on Latest Developments.”
As an international dispute resolution attorney in Foley Hoag’s Paris office, Torres Camprubí represents sovereign States and State-owned entities in arbitration proceedings administered by ICSID and the PCA, as well as in inter-State cases before the ICJ and ITLOS. She is also an active member of the ILA Committee on International Law and Sea-Level Rise.
