The American Lawyer Profiles Foley Hoag as a Firm That Is Meeting the Moment

June 24, 2026

The American Lawyer spoke with Managing Partner Jim Bucking and Litigation Department Co-Chair Beth Neitzel about the incredible momentum at the firm right now. The feature highlighted the firm’s ongoing litigation against the Trump administration, which includes representing the National Trust for Historic Preservation against the White House ballroom project, a coalition of eight cultural heritage organizations suing to halt the alterations of the Kennedy Center until the legally required public review is complete, and Power Forward Communities in its lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency over the termination of its $2 billion federal clean energy grant.

He went on to add that “the amount of conflict a firm has with the administration depends on whether the administration puts its toe over the line. And we have a lot of material to work with.”

Neitzel shared that the firm’s recent work helps to solidify the firm’s reputation in the market as one that will stand up to executive overreach.

The piece also noted the firm’s recent impressive hires, including Ambassador David Pressman, First Amendment litigators Mike Grygiel and Kelly McNamee, former U.S. Special Counsel Hampton Dellinger and former White House Counsel Greg Craig.

"Our door is open to lawyers who want to be in an environment that stands up for what is right and are willing to take on matters of national importance," Bucking shared. “I don’t see there being any major change in the administration’s behavior in the next couple of years, and we are ready.”
