Foley Hoag announced it has signed
The Green Pledge, an initiative by
The Campaign for Greener Arbitrations to reduce the environmental impact of international arbitrations.
In signing, Foley Hoag commits to pursuing the pledges’ eight guiding principles to promote environmentally sustainable arbitration practices, including relying on electronic communications and videoconferencing where possible, partnering with sustainable service providers, and offsetting carbon emissions for any necessary travel.
The campaign was founded by International Arbitrator, Lucy Greenwood, in 2019, with the aim of significantly reducing the carbon footprint of the arbitration community. The campaign is comprised of arbitration practitioners committed to achieving sustainable change in the way arbitrations are managed, promoting awareness of the environmental impact of arbitrations and producing best practice guides for minimizing the carbon footprint of practices.
The Green Pledge is one of a number of sustainability commitments Foley Hoag has made in recent years, with others including the
Net Zero Lawyers Alliance and the firm’s own
net-zero commitment.
