Foley Hoag Adds Litigator Jason Hipp as Partner in New York

June 24, 2026

Foley Hoag announced today that Jason Hipp has joined the firm as a partner in its Litigation Department. Hipp, who is based in the firm’s New York office, leads high-stakes litigation involving human rights, national security, cross-border legal issues, and commercial disputes.

His arrival follows the recent additions of other New York-based litigators, including Ambassador David Pressman, with whom Hipp has worked closely on global disputes, and First Amendment partners Michael Grygiel and Kelly McNamee.

“Jason’s outstanding reputation in international litigation and commercial disputes makes him a strong addition to our team,” said Managing Partner Jim Bucking. “His arrival builds on our recent growth, particularly in New York, and strengthens our ability to serve clients facing disputes in the United States and abroad.”

Hipp handles matters involving Section 1782 proceedings, the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, the Anti-Terrorism Act, the Torture Victim Protection Act, and the Alien Tort Statute. Hipp also handles commercial disputes, including claims arising from allegations of fraud, breach of contract, and trade secret misappropriation, as well as shareholder and M&A disputes.  He has particular experience representing Korean and Middle Eastern clients.

Hipp has led human rights and national security cases in federal court, including matters involving attempted attacks on foreign officials, acts of terrorism against U.S. citizens, and alleged extrajudicial killings. He has been recognized by Litigation Daily three times over the past two years for his role in securing significant victories for Yazidi-American victims of genocide, the family of an American victim of the shooting down of MH17 by Russian-backed terrorists, and the family of a journalist assassinated during the El Salvador civil war.

“Foley Hoag is a natural fit for my practice,” said Hipp. “The firm has long stood out for its international law and human rights work, and for its willingness to take on high-profile matters and lead with its values. I look forward to working with my former colleague Ambassador Pressman and my new partners to help clients handle disputes that span borders, legal systems, and public policy issues.”

"Jason is a superb litigator with whom I have worked closely on some of the most significant and complex commercial, national security, and human rights disputes being litigated,” said Ambassador Pressman.  “He comes to Foley Hoag for the same reason I did—to practice at one of the country's premier international disputes firms with partners committed to creatively taking on the most important and challenging matters."

Hipp has previously worked in the nonprofit sector, where he advanced global LGBTQ rights and helped public housing residents gain access to social services. He serves on the boards of directors of the Center for Justice and Accountability, a leading human rights organization, and Kinding Sindaw, a New York City-based Indigenous arts organization.

Hipp is active in the New York City Bar Association, including through its Business and Human Rights Committee. He also serves on the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Law Committee.

Hipp previously clerked for the Honorable Myron H. Thompson of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.
