Foley Hoag has once again been ranked among the top firms for International Arbitration in
Global Arbitration Review’s 2026 GAR 30 list, which highlights the world’s leading 30 firms in the field.
In its analysis, GAR noted the International Litigation and Arbitration Department’s “excellent record of defence wins for states facing hefty investment arbitrations” and “even more impressive” record in the public international law arena.
It also highlighted several key client successes from the previous year, including:
- Representing several States before the International Court of Justice in advisory proceedings concerning States’ obligations to combat climate change, a landmark decision which earned “Most Important Decision” at the 2026 GAR Awards
- Securing a largely favorable ruling on behalf of Equatorial Guinea in a boundary and sovereignty dispute with Gabon at the International Court of Justice
- A ruling in a long-running ICSID case on behalf of Bangladeshi State-owned entity Petrobangla, with an award requiring Canada-based Niko Resources to pay US$42M in compensation for a blowout at a gas field
The publication also included client testimonials, which cite the firm’s “very professional approach” and deep understanding of “the public and administrative context in which a State operates.” Testimonials also celebrate International Litigation and Arbitration attorneys as “simply outstanding” and “some of the best technicians I have ever had the pleasure of working with.”
“This ranking is a testament to our commitment to providing superior counsel and guidance for our clients navigating complex international disputes in an ever-challenging international environment,” said International Litigation and Arbitration Department Co-Chair Constantinos Salonidis. “We are honored once again be included among the elite of international arbitration and wish to thank our clients for placing their trust in our firm to handle their most important international arbitration matters.”
