I provide support with international disputes, public international law matters and investor-state arbitrations.

As a part of the International Litigation & Arbitration team, Taleen Khleifat assists in the representation of sovereign states by working with attorneys to develop, litigate, and arbitrate cases.

Taleen also helps manage case files, prepare for hearings, support court and arbitration filings, prepare legal and factual exhibits, conduct legal research, and review translations.

  • Alleged Smuggling of Migrants (Lithuania v. Belarus): Paralegal to Foley Hoag advising the Republic of Lithuania in a dispute before the International Court of Justice arising under the Protocol Against the Smuggling of Migrants.
  • Application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Armenia v. Azerbaijan); Application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Azerbaijan v. Armenia). Paralegal to Foley Hoag representing Armenia in proceedings before the International Court of Justice arising from allegations of breach of the CERD. A part of the team that secured critical victories for Armenia on the Parties’ requests for provisional measures and preliminary objections.
  • Bern Convention Arbitration (Azerbaijan v. Armenia):  Paralegal to Foley Hoag representing Armenia in proceedings at the Permanent Court of Arbitration brought by Azerbaijan under the Bern Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats.

  • Paralegal to Foley Hoag representing Loujain al-Hathloul, a Saudi women’s rights activist and political prisoner, before the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, in a lawsuit seeking to hold U.S. intelligence operatives and a cybersurveillance company accountable for their role in enabling her extradition to Saudi Arabia, where she was detained and tortured. 
  • Paralegal to Foley Hoag representing three judges of the International Criminal Court in challenging sanctions issued against them by the Trump Administration in the the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
  • Paralegal to Foley Hoag representing four leading U.S. human rights organizations in challenging sanctions under Executive Order 14,203 regarding the International Criminal Court in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

UN ADVISORY, PRO BONO, AND OTHER EXPERIENCE
  • Advised the Atlantic Counsel on UN submissions to recognize Gender Apartheid as an International Crime.
  • Assisted the International Bar Association and the Human Rights Foundation in a public enquiry concerning the human rights situation in Xinjiang and the treatment of the Uyghur population. 
  • Represented an Afghan family in their humanitarian parole and asylum applications to obtain entry and remain in the United States.
  • Represented a Cameroonian political refugee in his asylum application to obtain entry and remain in the United States.
  • Represented a Honduran family in their asylum applications to remain in the United States.
