AI and IP: A Lightning Round on Current Status and Open Questions

September 08, 2026

The news – and IP newsletters – have been brimming with updates about AI over the past few years. In this all-lightning-round webinar, we’ll provide insights and updates on what is and isn’t established about the effect of AI on four types of IP. We’ll address questions including:

  • Trademark – Does it matter if an AI designed our logo? Does anyone own rights in the trademark at the top of that AI-slop website?
  • Patent/Trade Secret – What does it mean when our invention invents something? Can using an AI be public disclosure?
  • Copyright – Does training AIs infringe copyright in the inputs? Who owns the outputs, and what if they infringe?
  • Right of Publicity – That isn’t me in that video… is it? How can I protect my face and my voice when it’s become so easy to mimic them?
