Foley Hoag Earns Second Consecutive ‘A’ Grade on 2024 Climate Scorecard

June 13, 2024

Foley Hoag LLP once again received a top "A" grade from Law Students for Climate Accountability, a student-led organization that seeks to amplify the roles and responsibilities of the legal industry in our current climate crisis.

The organization recently released its 2024 Law Firm Climate Change Scorecard, which chronicles the climate-related work of the Vault 100 top-ranked firms in the U.S. according to how much fossil fuels work they have engaged in over a five-year period. Grades are based on firms' litigation, lobbying efforts and other legal transactions from 2019 to 2023.

For 2024, Foley Hoag was one of only seven law firms to receive an “A” grade. The report calls on law firms to phase out work for the fossil fuel industry, and it seeks to support law students and lawyers who are concerned about the climate crisis.

“It is a privilege to work with such a talented and mission-driven team of attorneys, serving a broad range of innovators and developers across the energy transition,” said Mark Barnett, Co-Chair of Foley Hoag's Energy & Climate Group. “As one of the first firms to develop a practice focused on the energy transition almost 20 years ago, it is gratifying to be recognized as a firm doing committed work in the sector for clients developing and deploying solutions to address the climate crisis.”

Last year Foley Hoag committed itself to achieve a Net Zero target by 2050, and joined the Net Zero Lawyers Alliance, a global network of law firms dedicated to providing net zero-aligned legal services.
