A Foley Hoag team advised Flatiron Energy in securing approximately $850 million in construction and term financing commitments for the Energizar battery energy storage project in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Foley Hoag also represented Flatiron Energy in the acquisition and land financing of the Energizar project site and obtaining key permits.
Designed at 250 megawatts (MW)/1,200 megawatt-hours (MWh), the standalone energy storage facility is expected to be the largest on the East Coast and among the largest urban battery energy storage systems globally. The project is expected to commence commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2027 and will provide critical capacity and other benefits for the Boston metropolitan area while supporting Massachusetts’ clean energy goals.
The Energizar project financing follows Foley Hoag's representation of Flatiron Energy in connection with Project Taft, a 200 MW/800 MWh battery energy storage project in Uxbridge, Massachusetts.
The Foley Hoag team advising Flatiron Energy was led by Aaron Lang, Jeff Ganguly, and Adam Wade, and included Adam Kahn and Daniel Carlston.
