Law360 Names Foley Hoag a Massachusetts Powerhouse

September 22, 2026

Foley Hoag has been named a Massachusetts Powerhouse by Law360, a recognition that highlights the firms that are driving some of the biggest deals and leading high-profile courtroom battles that are making lasting impact at the state and local level.

The profile highlights some of the firm’s biggest successes for clients over the past year, including obtaining a win for client Alexion Pharmaceuticals in a trade secrets matter and advising Flatiron Energy in obtaining $540 million in commitments in support of a 200-megawatt battery energy storage project, the largest such project in Massachusetts to date.

Managing Partner Hathaway Russell cited the firm’s ability to serve clients across the full spectrum of the business cycle as a strength in Massachusetts given the makeup of the state’s economy.

"Here in Massachusetts, you see companies spin out of [the Massachusetts Institute of Technology] and Harvard. You have Fortune 500 companies executing global strategy. We serve both of those [ends of the range] and everything in between," she told Law360.

Business Department Co-Chair Patrick Connolly noted that one of the firm’s strengths is its ability to create a “case of characters” around a deal.

"In a life sciences deal, you're often calling on your IP partners and on your [U.S. Food and Drug Administration] regulatory partners and data privacy and security partners to form a full-spectrum, cross-departmental deal team, and that's a real strength of ours," he said.

The profile also noted the firm’s representation of clients in high-profile litigation, including The National Trust for Historic Preservation in its challenge to the ballroom construction at the White House.
